Personal possession is not controlled; however possession in a custodial institution is illegal and carries a penalty of up to two years in prison and/or a fine.
Production, supply, offer to Supply, possession with intent to supply and importation or exportation will be illegal. These offences carry a penalty of up to seven years in prison and/or a fine.

Modafinil is used to treat narcolepsy. Modafinil is a central nervous system stimulant and works by preventing excessive sleepiness during waking hours.

Short term effects

Adverse effects commonly found in therapeutic use include: headache, asthenia, chest pain, abdominal pain, nausea, dry mouth, diarrhoea, constipation, anorexia, dyspepsia, tachycardia, palpitations, vasodilatation, nervousness, insomnia, anxiety, dizziness, drowsiness, depression, confusion, paraesthesia, rash, hypertonia, blurred vision and raised liver function tests. In overdose: nausea, diarrhoea, insomnia, restlessness, confusion, agitation and hallucinations, tachycardia, bradycardia, hypertension and chest pain may occur.
