2-Aminoindane is an analogue of amphetamine (Sainsbury et al, 2011); therefore toxicity may be similar to that of amphetamines. In rats 2-Aminoindan appears to produce amphetamine like responses (Oberlender et al, 1991).
In the 1970s, aminoindanes were reported to possess significant bronchodilating and analgesic properties, but recent research has indicated that they also have potent effects on serotonin release and re-uptake (Solomons and Sam, 1991).These substances have been sold as NPS for their ability to produce empathogenic and entactogenic effects of serotonin releasing drugs, such as MDMA (Monte, Maronalewicka,, et al. 1993).
