Lidocaine was first synthesized in 1948 as a local anaesthetic and has more recently found popularity as a anti-arrhythmic agent. It is also been found in illicit drugs as a bulking agent, in particular cocaine; this is as it has similar, but stronger, anaesthetic effects as cocaine and gives the impression of higher quality cocaine

Central Nervous System problems, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, tremors, convulsions
